Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo: ‘This is my team, and I love it’

After months of noise, speculation, and hypothetical trade boards, Giannis Antetokounmpo remained with Bucks at the deadline.

The Bucks listened to calls. They did not engage.

Antetokounmpo noticed.

Shortly after the deadline passed, Antetokounmpo posted a message on social media that felt intentional. “Legends don’t chase. They attract.” The tone was calm. The message was clear enough.

At All-Star Weekend, he doubled down publicly, telling ESPN’s Malika Andrews that nothing about his approach has changed.

“What I’ve said from the beginning of this year is that you will never hear me say I don’t want to be a Milwaukee Buck,” Antetokounmpo said. “As of today, I’m committed to the Milwaukee Bucks.”

That last part mattered. As of today. So Antetokounmpo did what he always does. He left room.

He acknowledged that like any kid growing up, he imagined different jerseys and different stages. Madison Square Garden. The Lakers. Playing with legends. The thought has crossed his mind. He didn’t deny it.

But he also made clear that chasing championships is the only real driver. Once you’ve tasted it, he said, it stays with you.

For now, Milwaukee is still home.

“This is my team, and I love it,” Giannis said.

Away from basketball, Antetokounmpo also shared insight into a different kind of investment. Earlier this month, he joined the ownership group of Chelsea Women, alongside Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

The appeal was simple. Impact. Legacy. Doing something his family can be proud of.

“This is probably the only offseason I’ll have where I can really be around the team,” Giannis said.
