Southeast Notes: Magic, Gary Harris, Heat, Wizards

Magic

• Shooting guard Gary Harris is expected to decide whether to get surgery for a torn left meniscus this week, per Khobe Price of the Orlando Sentinel. 
• Harris, 27, will have a better idea of his next steps once medicals are finalized. He is actually the second-oldest player on the Magic (behind Terrence Ross) after signing a two-year, $26 million extension this summer.
• The Magic are said to still be making Ross available in trades ahead of the season. Ross has indicated he would like to be moved to a playoff contender. “We’re definitely in different spots,” Ross said, via Price. “I feel like I’m a part of that old regime, and they’re going in a different direction.”

Heat

• Free agent forward/center Montrezl Harrell might have been a nice signing for the Heat, but their decision to bring back Udonis Haslem may not make it possible, relayed Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
• Now, if the Heat were to sign Harrell, or any other free agent, they will fall into the luxury tax. After losing P.J. Tucker in free agency, though, the possibility exists they could find room for another forward during the season.
• Meanwhile, it seems as if rookie forward Nikola Jovic may not be ready to crack the rotation, Winderman wrote. Heat president Pat Riley has referred to Jovic as a “developmental piece” back in June.

Wizards

• Lottery pick Johnny Davis is likely to be in a bit of a training camp battle with second-year guard Corey Kispert, per Josh Robbins of The Athletic. Davis can help his cause by becoming a better perimeter shooter, a scout told Robbins.
• Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington took a deep dive into how newcomer Monte Morris might be able to help the Wizards. Morris, of course, was acquired with Will Barton from the Nuggets for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ish Smith.
• Matt Modderno of SB Nation listed his all-time Wizards teams, naming John Wall, Bradley Beal, Chris Webber, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison as first-teams. As Modderno noted, the list only included players who have played for the franchise since the nickname was changed from Bullets to Wizards (hence, no Wes Unseld).
