The NBA has revealed its COVID strategy for the 2022-23 season and teams will now only test vaccinated players who are symptomatic, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Along with that, unvaccinated players will now only be tested once a week, provided they too are not showing any symptoms, Charania noted.
Anyone who receives a positive test will immediately be isolated, though the length of the quarantine was not specified.
Also this season, protective face coverings will not be required, Charania wrote.
Last season, more than 300 players had entered COVID protocol by mid-January, though the spread slowed to the point where the league no longer required daily testing of players, coaches and other “Tier 1” personnel well before the All-Star break in February.
