Hornets wing Kon Knueppel just added another line to what’s becoming a ridiculous rookie résumé.

The latest? Knueppel drilled his 207th three-pointer Thursday night against Indiana, breaking Keegan Murray’s NBA rookie record. He did it in style, too — five threes in the first half, then the record-breaker in the third off a pass from former Duke teammate Sion James.

Fifty-nine games. It took Murray 80.

Knueppel finished with 28 points in a 133-109 win, hitting 8-of-12 from deep and pushing his season total past 200. He now leads the entire NBA with 209 made threes while shooting 44 percent from beyond the arc.

“Just trying to make the right basketball play,” Knueppel told reporters, shrugging off the milestone.

He admitted he didn’t even realize the record had fallen. “Honestly, I thought I needed seven,” he said.

That humility is part of the appeal.

Charlotte coach Charles Lee called it contagious. Teammates rave about his off-ball movement and quick trigger. Ninety-three percent of his threes have come off assists. He knows where to be. He gets there fast.

Even Stephen Curry noticed, praising Knueppel’s release and underrated playmaking.

Now the Rookie of the Year debate looms — Knueppel versus former Duke roommate Cooper Flagg.

Meanwhile, the Hornets are flirting with playoff contention. Not bad for a guy who thought he needed one more.
