The second game is in the books for Darius Garland in a Clippers uniform. The results look familiar.
Garland finished with 12 points and eight assists in 24 minutes Wednesday, as the Clippers rolled past the Indiana Pacers, 130-107, for their third straight win.
It marked Garland’s first home game since arriving in last month’s blockbuster trade that sent him from the Cavaliers to Los Angeles for James Harden.
Garland went 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 on threes while continuing to settle into the rotation. In his debut Monday, he also scored 12 points in 23 minutes off the bench during a 114-101 comeback win over the Golden State Warriors.
That night, Kawhi Leonard made it clear what he wants from the two-time All-Star.
“Number one, just competitive nature,” Leonard said, via Joey Linn. “We’re gonna be looking at him to get us involved, get him some shots, pushing the pace in transition for us and getting everybody involved.”
Garland admitted there was rust in that first outing.
“I wasn’t frustrated, it was just trying to knock the cobwebs off,” he told Clippers sideline reporter Lauren Rosen.
Against Indiana, the Clippers had little trouble. Leonard led the way with 29 points, while Bennedict Mathurin added 23 on 8-of-11 shooting. Brook Lopez chipped in 17.
Pascal Siakam also scored 29 for Indiana, which dropped its seventh straight.
