There is at least some progress for Anthony Davis.
The Washington Wizards big man, sidelined since Jan. 8 with ligament damage in his left hand, has been cleared to begin limited individual on-court activities, the team announced.
The evaluation took place in Los Angeles. According to the Wizards, Davis will be reevaluated again in two weeks.
Washington acquired Davis in a midseason deal despite the injury, with the move viewed largely as a long-term play. The Wizards also traded for Trae Young while he was dealing with quad and knee issues.
The team is out of contention and focused on retaining its top-eight protected 2026 first-round pick, so the bigger picture likely starts next season.
Still, the door has not been closed on Davis appearing before this season ends. General manager Will Dawkins said after the trade deadline he expects the 10-time All-Star to play at some point if the recovery allows.
Whether that actually happens remains unclear.
There are fewer than six weeks left in the season and Washington has little incentive to rush him back. The next update, expected in about two weeks, should offer a clearer sense of whether Davis might take the court this spring.
