Three Random Names If Cavs Go Summer Shopping

Let’s be clear about something right off the top — the Cavaliers just made two pretty big moves. They landed James Harden from the Clippers and added a couple of helpful guards from the Kings last month.

So this is hardly a panic post.

It is more of a “Hey, it’s an off night and the NBA rumor machine never sleeps” type of thing.

The Cavs currently sit fourth in the East and very much look like a team capable of making some postseason noise. That said, Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale recently tossed out three names he thinks could fit the Cavs’ roster if the front office decides it needs another tweak.

We will call them the “random but interesting” trio.

First is Justin Champagnie of the Wizards. Favale’s argument is simple. Champagnie shoots spot-up threes, rebounds, defends and costs next to nothing.

Then there is Ron Holland II of the Pistons. The offense may be a work in progress, but the defensive toughness would fit alongside Harden and Donovan Mitchell.

Finally, Derrick Jones Jr. of the Clippers. Long, athletic, able to guard multiple spots and already familiar with Harden.

Again, none of this means these guys are on the Cavs radar. The only players on their radar, in fact, are pretty much the roster as is.

But if the Cavs ever decide they want another defender, another role player, or just another guy who fits the “do the dirty work” mold, those could be names are at least worth tossing into the conversation.

That is all this is. Just a little basketball talk on a quiet night.
