Celtics star Jayson Tatum is back on the court. Feeling like himself again is another story.
Roughly 10 months removed from an Achilles tear, Tatum acknowledged the frustration that’s come with trying to regain his form after Sunday’s loss to Minnesota, via Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe.
“I mean, I ain’t know how this was going to be,” Tatum said. “You just want to be yourself again. I’m not Superman, so it’s obviously going to take some time. In the moment, it’s frustrating.”
Tatum finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds but was scoreless in the first half. Since returning March 6, he’s averaging 19.1 points while shooting 38.8 percent from the field and 29.3 percent from three.
He said it’s less about a slump and more about getting reacclimated.
“I wouldn’t say normal slump,” Tatum said. “It’s just been a long time. Just trying to knock the rust off game by game.”
Even so, the Celtics are 6-2 in games he’s played and remain near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
