Luka Doncic isn’t holding back. As the MVP race heats up, the Lakers star made it clear he’s not exactly thrilled with how things are playing out.

“The better I play the more I go down in rankings, so I don’t know what more I can do,” he told reporters.

That tends to get people’s attention.

Doncic has been putting together another dominant stretch, producing at a high level while helping push the Lakers up the Western Conference standings.

And yet, as he pointed out, the recognition hasn’t always followed.

Whether that’s frustration or just honesty, it’s the kind of comment that usually pops up this time of year, when the MVP conversation starts to take on a life of its own.

The race remains crowded. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been in the mix all season. Nikola Jokic continues to do his thing. Others are making cases as well.

That’s part of the deal. Still, Doncic’s point is hard to ignore.

He’s producing. He’s winning. And in his view, it should be adding up a little differently.
