So much for that idea.
Boxing great Floyd Mayweather says he’s no longer sure he wants in on an NBA expansion team in Las Vegas. That’s a shift from past comments, when he openly talked about joining an ownership group.
Speaking at an autograph signing over the weekend, Mayweather admitted the reality of NBA ownership doesn’t look all that appealing anymore.
“It looks like a lot of stress,” he said, via the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He even joked that owners seem to age quickly once they get involved.
Hard to argue with that one.
Mayweather has been tied to Las Vegas for decades and remains all-in on the city’s growth. He praised the recent sports boom and said he’ll continue supporting local teams.
That includes the Las Vegas Aces, who he’s regularly watched from courtside since their arrival.
Still, the NBA piece may not be in his future.
Las Vegas continues to look like a strong expansion candidate whenever (anbd if) the league decides to move forward. Just don’t expect Mayweather to be front and center in an ownership group. At least not right now.
