Timberwolves

Jaden McDaniels has been diagnosed with left knee patella tendinopathy and a bone bruise, the Timberwolves announced. He’s considered week-to-week after undergoing an MRI at Mayo Clinic.

According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, surgery isn’t expected and a playoff return remains possible.

McDaniels has played in 71 games and is averaging a career-high 14.8 points while shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three. He had scored at least 16 points in five straight games before sitting out Saturday’s loss to Detroit.

Minnesota is tied for fifth in the Western Conference. Ayo Dosunmu is nearing a return from a calf injury, while Anthony Edwards is listed as questionable with a knee issue.

Hawks

Nickeil Alexander-Walker is putting together a strong case for Most Improved Player with the Atlanta Hawks.

Alexander-Walker is averaging 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists after posting 9.4 points per game in a smaller role last season.

“I always figured that the better player I would be, the better it would be for the team,” he told Lauren Williams of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Magic

The Magic fell to the Toronto Raptors, 139-87, on Sunday — marking the largest loss in franchise history.

Orlando allowed a 31-point run during the game.

“That’s on me,” coach Jamahl Mosley said, via Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel. “I’ve got to do a better job there with this group to make sure they’re prepared in the right way, knowing exactly the sense of urgency that Toronto was going to play with … knowing the positioning that they were in for playoff positioning.”
