This would be a strange one.
If Luka Doncic can’t return before the regular season ends, he could miss All-NBA honors despite leading the league in scoring, per the Associated Press.
Doncic is averaging 33.5 points, well ahead of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but sits at 64 games played. He needs one more to qualify. If not, he’d become the first scoring champ to miss All-NBA since 1976 (Bob McAdoo, Buffalo Braves).
So yeah, not exactly common.
His absence would also test the Lakers’ depth. Marcus Smart could return soon from an ankle sprain, while Bronny James may see an expanded role in the meantime.
“At this point, at this juncture of the season, it’s the last thing you want to see,” LeBron James said after the Lakers-Thunder game. “When you have an MVP candidate on your team, the last thing you want to see is somebody go down with a hamstring injury. So, pray for the best, for sure, and a speedy recovery.”
