A decision on Steve Kerr’s future as Warriors coach isn’t coming immediately.
Kerr, who is on an expiring contract, is expected to take some time after the season before determining his next step, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN.
In the aftermath of Wednesday’s play-in win over the Clippers, Kerr sounded like someone still fully invested.
“There’s a reason we have four championships,” he said. “With all the wins we’ve ever had here, a lot of them with a lot more at stake, this is right up there.”
That sentiment reflects the context.
Golden State is older. The regular season brought stretches of uneven play. Injuries took their toll. The path has not looked like the dominant years of the past.
Still, the core delivered when it mattered most.
“Just because of where we are and our age and the decline of our performance this year and our injuries,” Kerr said, “it was just a beautiful display of competitive will.”
The formula has not changed.
Stephen Curry controlled the offense late. Draymond Green anchored the defense. Kerr trusted the group that has defined the franchise’s run.
His long-term outlook remains undecided. But moments like this one are a reminder of why the partnership has lasted this long.
