Cavs-Raptors Game 4 halftime dribbles

Random dribbles following the first half of Game 4 between the Cavaliers and Raptors on Sunday in Toronto. Raptors lead, 38-36.

1. Yes, you read that score right. If you like ugly playoff basketball, this is the game for you. For starters, the two teams combined for 2-of-26 shooting on threes through the first quarter and a half.

2. But you do have to like the way the Cavs are defending. And in a low-scoring game like this, it’s important that they get some contributions from the bench. Dennis Schroder, for instance, came in and drove past his defender every time. The result was some easy makes at the rim.

3. Somehow, some way, the Cavs have to get Donovan Mitchell unleashed. He’s getting no clean looks, and frankly, isn’t really even able to drive. Mitchell has had to force some things, and that’s not gonna work. He’s 2-of-11 shooting.

4. Every offensive possession has been a struggle for both teams. The Cavs just have to keep defending with energy and stop turning the ball over. You can win games when you’re not making shots (including free throws). But you’d better be ready to master the intangibles. The Cavs are so-so in that area so far.

5. James Harden has to take better care of the ball. The Cavs as a unit have been much too casual in that area. Again, if you take care of the ball and defend, you’re like 90 percent of the way there — even if the shots don’t fall.

6. The Raptors went on 10-0 run to take the lead at half. The Cavs simply must get tougher. In a game like this, that’s everything.

7. The Cavs have committed 11 turnovers and given up TWELVE offensive rebounds. “I like the Cavs, but when you have stats like that, it’s hard for me to take them seriously,” Charles Barkley said on ESPN.

  1. WTF, I am so glad I missed this one. Looks like another choke job and disappearing act from Mobley and Mitchell. I can’t believe they’re not sweeping these clowns from the north. Another early exit for Mitchell. I see now why Utah never made it past the first round. 🤬🏀
