What each eliminated NBA playoff team needs this offseason

The NBA playoff field is down to eight. The rest are already shifting to the offseason.

First-round exits tend to expose everything. Some flaws were already known. Others showed up under the lights.

Let’s take a look at what each of the eliminated teams could use.

Celtics: Get downhill
Boston has talent. That hasn’t changed. But the offense leaned too heavily on the three, often without any real pressure on the rim. They finished last in rim frequency, which is tough to justify for a contender. When the shots don’t fall, the offense stalls. They need someone who can collapse a defense and create easier looks.

Raptors: Bring back Mamukelashvili
This one feels straightforward. Sandro Mamukelashvili gave them spacing at the five and fit cleanly next to Scottie Barnes. The shooting, the size, the versatility. It all worked. He’s not coming back on a minimum deal, but Toronto needs to find a way. Letting that type of fit walk would be a step back.

Hawks: Add size inside
Atlanta made progress. Still, the holes were clear. They gave up too many easy looks around the rim, and it showed in the first round. Onyeka Okongwu brings skill, but not the size to anchor a defense alone. Adding a true interior presence would change the equation. It would also take pressure off the rest of the group.

Magic: Get the right coach
The roster is largely set. Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are locked in long-term. The front office already made a big move by bringing in Desmond Bane. Now it shifts to the bench. With Jamahl Mosley out, this hire matters. The next coach needs a clear plan for how this group plays.

Nuggets: Get younger, get quicker
Denver didn’t look like itself. Injuries played a role, but the lack of athleticism stood out. Too many possessions where they couldn’t keep up defensively. Nikola Jokic is still the foundation. That’s not changing. But the pieces around him need more speed and range to hold up over a series.

Rockets: Find a table-setter
The offense got stuck. Too often, it turned into Kevin Durant trying to create against loaded defenses. When teams applied pressure, Houston didn’t have a steady hand to organize things. That showed up in key moments. They need a lead guard who can handle, pass, and settle the group. It doesn’t have to be flashy. It just has to work.

Trail Blazers: Solve center
The numbers weren’t subtle. Portland performed better with Robert Williams III on the floor than Donovan Clingan. The issue is availability. Williams has dealt with injuries, and that’s part of the equation. Clingan hasn’t been efficient enough around the rim. So now it becomes a decision. Stick with what’s there or find something more reliable.

Suns: Get Booker help
Phoenix has to pick a direction. Hovering in the middle won’t cut it. If the focus is maximizing Devin Booker, then he needs a true partner. Not just another scorer. An efficient one who fits both ends. Someone who can take pressure off without creating new problems.

Eight teams are done. The NBA offseason is where things shift.
