Pacers Waive Norvel Pelle, David Stockton, Justin Anderson, Two Others

The Pacers have waived center Norvel Pelle, guard/forward Justin Anderson and point guard David Stockton, per the NBA’s transactions page.

Along with those two, the team also waived forward Bennie Boatright and guard Gabe York.

All five players are likely headed for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Indiana’s affiliate in the G League.

Pelle, 28, is 6-foot-10 and signed a 10-day deal with the Jazz in January, appearing in three games. He signed a 10-day deal with the Celtics in late December, though he did log any minutes. Before that, he had been playing with the Cleveland Charge of the G League, averaging 8.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.

He has spent time in the NBA with the 76ers, Nets, Knicks and Kings, compiling career averages of 2.1 points and 2.5 rebounds. This is the second time he’s been signed and waived this offseason, the first occurrence taking place with the Trail Blazers.

Anderson, 28, is 6-6 and appeared in 16 games with the Pacers last season, averaging 7.6 points. He signed three 10-day contracts with the team, starting in January.

He also played three games with the Cavaliers after signing a 10-day hardship deal.

Anderson spent most of the season with the Mad Ants, the Pacers’ G League affiliate, putting up some impressive numbers — 27.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists.

He has also spent time with Nets, Hawks, 76ers and Mavericks, who made him a first-round pick in 2015. He attended training camp with the Pacers last year, too, so he knows the franchise well.

Stockton, 31, is 5-foot-11 and is the son of Jazz legend John Stockton. He played three games with the Kings during the 2014-15 season, as well as another three with the Jazz several years later. His last NBA appearance came in April 2018.

Stockton was cut last October by the Grizzlies, then signed with the Hustle, averaging 11.2 points and 4.3 assists in the G League last season. He also spent time with the Reno Bighorns and South Bay Lakers of the G League, as well time internationally in Puerto Rico, Croatia, Germany and New Zealand. He came to the Pacers via a G League trade with the Memphis Hustle a few weeks ago.

York, 29, is 6-3 and appeared in two games with the Pacers last season, his first in the NBA. 

Boatright, 26, is 6-10 and has yet to play in the NBA. He was waived by Indiana in October 2021.

The Pacers’ roster is now at 18, giving them some room to sign a couple more players before training camp tips off on Tuesday.
