The Celtics have waived guard/forward Denzel Valentine, per the RealGM transactions log.
The move was made to create room for veteran power forward Blake Griffin, as relayed by Jared Weiss of The Athletic. Griffin is signing a one-year deal with the team.
Valentine, 28, is 6-foot-4 and was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Bulls, then appeared in 22 games with the Cavaliers, and two more with the Jazz, last season. He has also played in the G League.
Valentine was traded by the Cavs to the Knicks in January as part of a three-team deal with the Lakers (that sent Rajon Rondo to Cleveland). He was waived by the Knicks a couple days later, and then signed a 10-day deal with the Jazz.
Boston officially signed Valentine to a training camp contract on Sept. 15.
