ABC promo sparks conspiracy talk ahead of Cavs-Pistons Game 7

The Cavaliers haven’t even tipped off Game 7 yet, and somehow, they’ve already made the Eastern Conference finals. At least, that’s what one ABC promo seemed to suggest.

A graphic circulating on social media showed a matchup between Cleveland and the Knicks for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals, complete with a Sunday afternoon tip time. Problem is, the Cavs still have to get through the Pistons first.

Naturally, that was enough to send parts of the internet into full conspiracy mode.

Rigged. Scripted. Already decided. You name it, it was out there.

Truth is, this likely had a much simpler explanation. Broadcast networks use automated playlists and preloaded graphics, and sometimes, the wrong one slips through. It happens more than people think. Still, the timing isn’t ideal, especially with a Game 7 looming.

And in today’s NBA discourse, it doesn’t take much to get fans talking.

But, as you know, nothing has been decided.

The Pistons will host the Cavs on Sunday night with everything on the line. Win, and you move on. Lose, and the offseason starts immediately.

So yeah, we’ll find out soon enough if that promo was a mistake. Or if the internet wants to keep running with it anyway.
