The Sixers’ front office search may not be as hands-off as advertised.
Bob Myers said the team’s next head of basketball operations will have “a lot of authority,” but he also made it clear he plans to stay involved in major roster decisions.
That’s raised eyebrows around the league.
According to Marc Stein, there’s a “widespread belief” Myers could explore hiring Hawks GM Onsi Saleh — someone he knows well from their time together in Golden State.
Makes sense on paper.
Reality may be different.
Saleh is expected to remain in Atlanta, where he just finished second in Executive of the Year voting. Philadelphia would need permission to speak with him, and that doesn’t appear likely.
So while the connection is there, the path isn’t.
And Myers? Sounds like he’s not going anywhere either.
