Warriors reportedly not near front of line for Giannis

The Warriors may not be planning another all-in superstar chase this offseason after all.

Speaking on 95.7 The Game, NBA insider Anthony Slater suggested the Warriors are probably nowhere near the front of the line if Giannis Antetokounmpo actually becomes available via trade from the Bucks.

“I think they are not first in line, not second, or third in line really at this point as far as packages that appeal most to Milwaukee,” Slater said.

That’s a pretty interesting shift for a franchise that spent much of the past two years linked to nearly every superstar rumor imaginable.

According to Slater, Golden State also may not have the same “level of thirst” to go big-game hunting that it once did. Instead, the focus could be on finding more balance around Stephen Curry and the veteran core.

As Slater put it, the Warriors probably want to add “a couple more mid-prime guys” this summer.

“You don’t want to be loaded with 19-year-olds and 37-year-olds,” he said.

The Warriors still believe they can compete with Curry leading the way, but there also seems to be an understanding that sacrificing every young asset for one final blockbuster may not be the smartest long-term play anymore.
