The Timberwolves may have some important decisions ahead this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Anthony Edwards is eager to see Minnesota improve its roster this summer, raising questions about how aggressively the franchise will pursue upgrades around its franchise star.
Speaking during NBA Finals coverage, Windhorst suggested Edwards may be paying close attention to former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns, who is now two wins away from helping the Knicks capture an NBA championship.
“Going forward after this series, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ future is in question somewhat because of what Ant feels about the roster,” Windhorst said. “And I wonder if KAT was still there, if he did.”
The comments are notable because Edwards has become the unquestioned face of the Timberwolves franchise. While there has been no indication he wants out of Minnesota, any suggestion that he believes the roster needs significant upgrades is sure to draw attention around the league.
The Timberwolves reached the Western Conference finals in 2025 before advancing to the second round this season, where they were eliminated by the Spurs. Injuries played a role, as Donte DiVincenzo missed the postseason with a ruptured Achilles.
Minnesota still features a talented core that includes Edwards, Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid. However, maintaining and improving that group won’t be easy financially.
The Wolves already have substantial salary commitments on the books and any major addition could push them back into second-apron territory.
Head coach Chris Finch recently indicated the front office will explore ways to improve the roster.
“I do expect us to be active,” Finch said. “We love our core, and we know we need to keep adding to it a little bit.”
Team president Tim Connelly has built a reputation as one of the league’s more aggressive executives, and Minnesota already made one notable move during the season by acquiring guard Ayo Dosunmu.
Whether another significant addition is coming remains to be seen.
What appears clear is that Edwards wants the Timberwolves to keep pushing forward.
