Stephon Castle says Spurs’ urgency ‘highest it’s been’ entering Game 3

The Spurs know what’s at stake.

After dropping the first two games of the NBA Finals to the Knicks, San Antonio heads to Madison Square Garden facing what amounts to a must-win situation.

Spurs guard Stephon Castle isn’t shying away from that reality.

Speaking ahead of Game 3, Castle acknowledged the Spurs’ sense of urgency has reached a new level as they attempt to avoid falling into a 3-0 hole.

“It’s human nature to come out with a certain sense of urgency after a loss,” Castle said. “It probably shouldn’t go that way; you should come out with the same urgency whether you win or lose. Now being down 2-0, our sense of urgency is the highest it’s been.”

The Spurs came painfully close to evening the series in Game 2 before watching a late lead disappear in a 105-104 loss.

San Antonio had opportunities down the stretch, but a costly turnover and missed shots in the final minute helped the Knicks escape with the victory.

Now the series shifts to New York, where a sold-out Madison Square Garden crowd will be waiting.

The Spurs have faced adversity throughout their playoff run, but Castle understands the challenge is greater than ever.

A loss in Game 3 would leave San Antonio on the brink of elimination. A victory, however, could breathe new life into the series.

For that reason, Castle said the Spurs are approaching Monday night with their highest level of urgency yet.
