The Wizards continue to evaluate their options with the top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but league observers still believe BYU star AJ Dybantsa is the most likely choice.
According to Sam Vecenie of The Athletic, Washington has not finalized its decision at No. 1. However, sources around the NBA continue to view Dybantsa as the franchise’s “most likely target.”
Dybantsa appears confident he can help accelerate a turnaround wherever he lands.

Speaking Monday, the highly touted wing said he believes his future team could make a rapid climb up the standings, similar to the rise the Spurs have enjoyed in recent years.
“It won’t take that long, especially with my adaptability and my work ethic,” Dybantsa said. “I’m not going to say easy, but pretty similar to what these guys do in terms of the forecast.”
Vecenie also noted there is considerable intrigue surrounding the Clippers and Nets, who hold the fifth and sixth picks, respectively.
Both teams have been connected to several guards projected to be selected in that range, while rumors persist that Los Angeles and Brooklyn could explore trade-down scenarios.
Vecenie added that Michigan center Aday Mara has also been linked to both clubs, though it remains unclear whether either team would target him at its current draft position or after moving down.
The NBA Draft begins June 23.
