LeBron-to-Warriors speculation still refuses to go away

LeBron James hasn’t made a decision on his future.

Until he does, one rumor is likely to keep resurfacing.

Per Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area (via Hoops Rumors’ Luke Adams), speculation linking James to the Warriors continues to linger despite the significant obstacles standing in the way of such a move.

The idea may sound far-fetched on the surface.

But according to Poole, at least some people around the league aren’t completely dismissing it.

“I know it seems crazy,” one league source told Poole. “But there is at least curiosity on both sides. This wouldn’t even be a conversation five or six years ago, and it might not happen now, but there’s enough there that we shouldn’t ignore the possibility. It’s mostly up to LeBron.”

Recent reports from ESPN and The Stein Line identified Golden State as perhaps the biggest threat to the Lakers if James decides to leave Los Angeles in free agency.

Of course, there are major hurdles.

The Warriors currently project to have access only to the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, meaning a straightforward signing would require James to accept a dramatic pay cut.

A sign-and-trade arrangement would likely be necessary, along with significant roster maneuvering by Golden State.

Nonetheless, most league observers continue to view a return to the Lakers as the most likely outcome.

Still, James joining Stephen Curry and Draymond Green remains one of those possibilities that will continue to generate discussion until the four-time MVP finally decides what’s next.

And until that happens, don’t expect the Warriors rumors to disappear.
