Danny Green predicts it will come down to Lakers or Cavs for LeBron James

LeBron James hasn’t revealed a decision on his future yet, and until he does, everyone seems to have an opinion.

The latest comes from former teammate Danny Green, who believes James will ultimately choose between the Lakers and Cavaliers if he decides to return for a 24th season.

“I think he for sure comes back next year,” Green said during an appearance on ESPN Los Angeles, via Cavs Roundtable’s Ashish Mathur. “And I mean, I hope it’s in LA. I think it might be in LA because I don’t know what Cleveland has in store, either LA or Cleveland.”

That’s largely in line with what many around the NBA have been saying for weeks.

Most will tell you the Lakers remain the obvious favorite if James decides to continue playing. He has, after all, spent the last eight seasons there. And his family clearly likes living in LA.

Then there’s Cleveland. While the buzz about a LeBron reunion hasn’t been quite as loud lately, it’s not about to disappear until he says otherwise.

Needless to say, the idea of finishing his career with his hometown franchise remains appealing to fans, given how the Cavs’ run to the Eastern Conference finals ended in a sweep against the Knicks.

Financially, however, a return remains complicated.

As relayed by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst (via Mathur), James is not expected to take a significant pay cut, and the Cavs currently lack the cap flexibility to sign him outright.

Again, though, that hasn’t stopped the rumors. James has often spoken about how much the Cavs’ 2016 championship meant to him, calling it the most special title of his career. That came after the Lakers’ season. That added some fuel to the old basketball blaze.

Anyway, Green thinks it will be the Lakers or Cavs. Others think it could be the Warriors. Some see him pulling off the surprise of all surprises and picking someplace else. This is, after all, LeBron James we’re talking about.
