Wizards
Despite recent trade speculation, all signs continue to point toward Trae Young remaining in Washington.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Young is excited about his fresh start with the Wizards and hopes to stay with the franchise for “a long time.”
That’s noteworthy given the latest round of rumors linking Young to teams such as the Heat and others looking for backcourt help.
But, again, the expectation around the league remains unchanged.
Scotto reported that league executives still believe Young and the Wizards will eventually agree to a new multiyear contract, keeping the four-time All-Star in Washington for the foreseeable future.
Washington also owns the No. 1 overall pick in next week’s draft, giving the franchise perhaps its most intriguing offseason in years.
Hornets
The Hornets continue searching for help in the middle.
While Charlotte has been linked to Kings center Domantas Sabonis, Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported that the organization remains hesitant to part with either of its first-round picks — Nos. 14 and 18 overall — in a potential deal.
Another name to watch is Nets center Nic Claxton.
According to Scotto, Claxton remains on Charlotte’s radar, and a possible sign-and-trade involving unrestricted free agent Coby White could be one avenue worth monitoring.
White is expected to draw significant interest around the league, while Brooklyn has previously been linked to the veteran guard.
Pelicans
The Pelicans continue searching for a way back into the first round.
According to Fischer, New Orleans remains active in exploring trade scenarios that could land the franchise a first-round pick in next week’s draft.
The Pelicans currently own only the No. 58 overall selection after previous trades depleted much of their draft capital.
Hoops Wire sources have speculated that New Orleans may have a specific prospect in mind and could target teams picking later in the first round if a move into the lottery proves too costly. Fischer reported the same.
Either way, the Pelicans don’t appear content entering draft night with just one selection.
