NBA Rumors: Raptors, RJ Barrett, Timberwolves, Josh Giddey, Mavericks

Raptors

RJ Barrett‘s name is popping up in trade discussions.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, rival teams have expressed interest in Barrett as part of various multi-team conversations involving the Raptors.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Toronto is looking to move him.

Then again, Barrett is entering the final season of his contract and remains one of the Raptors’ most valuable trade assets.

The former No. 3 overall pick is coming off another productive season, averaging 19.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He was even better in Toronto’s first-round playoff series against the Cavaliers, posting 24.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

At 26, Barrett remains young enough to fit a long-term plan and experienced enough to help a contender right away. You can see why teams are checking in.

Timberwolves

The Timberwolves continue to search for ways to improve around Anthony Edwards.

Scotto confirmed previous reports that Minnesota has shown interest in Bulls guard Josh Giddey. The Suns have reportedly done homework on Giddey as well.

Meanwhile, the Wolves remain focused on bringing back Ayo Dosunmu.

According to Scotto, rival executives believe Dosunmu could command somewhere between $18 million and $24 million annually on his next contract. Minnesota is said to be working toward a new deal.

The Wolves have also explored the trade market involving Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and the No. 28 pick as they look for roster upgrades.

In other words, Minnesota doesn’t appear content to simply run it back.

Mavericks

The Mavericks may be one of the more active teams to watch on draft night.

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Dallas has shown a willingness to explore moving both up and down the board.

The stronger possibility may be moving back.

Fischer reported that the Mavericks and Arizona guard Brayden Burries have mutual interest if he’s available at No. 9. But if Burries is gone, Dallas could become a candidate to trade down and pick up additional assets.
