NBA Rumors: Nuggets, Peyton Watson, Spurs, Tobias Harris, Knicks

Nuggets

Restricted free agent Peyton Watson is aiming high in contract negotiations with the Nuggets.

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Watson is seeking an average annual salary north of $25 million — more than the extension Denver gave Christian Braun last offseason.

Whether he’ll get there remains to be seen.

Most of the league’s available cap space has already dried up, leaving few teams capable of making that type of offer. The Nuggets also aren’t believed to have much interest in discussing sign-and-trade scenarios involving the 23-year-old forward, who remains an important part of their long-term plans.

Denver is in no rush, either. Watson carries a manageable $13.1 million cap hold, allowing the Nuggets to continue operating while his restricted free agency plays out.

Spurs

Don’t expect many more fireworks in San Antonio.

After drafting four players, re-signing Harrison Barnes, adding Tobias Harris in free agency and hiring Billy Donovan as lead assistant coach, the Spurs are expected to keep things relatively quiet for the rest of the offseason, according to ESPN’s Michael C. Wright.

Harris is viewed as a strong candidate to provide veteran scoring off the bench behind Julian Champagnie, who recently agreed to return on a three-year deal.

Knicks

The Knicks may have more contract decisions coming.

According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart both appear to be strong candidates to eventually receive contract extensions, whether later this offseason or during the 2026-27 campaign.

Miles McBride‘s situation is less certain. Bondy suggests the veteran guard could ultimately command more money in unrestricted free agency next summer than New York may be comfortable paying, given its long-term salary-cap outlook.
