The Lakers aren’t giving up on Jonathan Kuminga.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Los Angeles remains the most aggressive team pursuing the unrestricted free agent, even after using most of its available cap space earlier in free agency.

The Lakers have already added Walker Kessler, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton, leaving limited financial flexibility. Even so, general manager Rob Pelinka has continued talking with Kuminga’s agent, Aaron Turner, while gradually improving the team’s offer.
The biggest selling point may not be the money.
Slater reported that the Lakers have emphasized Kuminga’s opportunity to play major minutes alongside Luka Doncic and the likelihood of earning a starting role.
So far, Kuminga hasn’t committed. According to Slater, Kuminga and Turner believe stronger opportunities could still develop as free agency unfolds.
A sign-and-trade also remains on the table.
Slater reported that the Hawks would consider helping facilitate a deal that allows Kuminga to keep his Bird Rights, though Atlanta would need additional compensation to make it worthwhile. The Lakers could create more flexibility by including players such as Jarred Vanderbilt, Dalton Knecht or Jaden Hardy in a larger package, though draft picks would likely have to be part of the equation as well.
The Cavaliers also continue to monitor the situation, Slater added.
Cleveland’s interest is tied in part to Kuminga’s relationship with coach Kenny Atkinson, who worked with the young forward during their time together in Golden State. However, with the Cavaliers continuing to explore the possibility of a reunion with LeBron James, the Lakers have emerged as Kuminga’s most active suitor.
The Kings have checked in as well, according to Slater, but would also need a sign-and-trade because of their salary cap situation.
