Cleveland sports fans will soon have another way to hear 92.3 The Fan.
According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, Audacy has reached an agreement with SiriusXM that will bring 42 of its radio stations to the satellite platform beginning Sept. 1. While all 42 stations will be available on the SiriusXM app, only nine sports stations, including Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan, will also be carried on SiriusXM’s in-car service.
Joining Cleveland on the in-car lineup are New York’s WFAN, Philadelphia’s WIP, Boston’s WEEI, Chicago’s 670 The Score, Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan, San Francisco’s 95.7 The Game, Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket and Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan.
It’s a notable development for one of Cleveland’s most recognizable sports radio brands, giving its programming national reach through SiriusXM while expanding access for listeners well beyond Northeast Ohio.
For basketball fans, that also means greater exposure for Cavaliers coverage throughout the season. The Fan regularly features Cavs discussions, interviews and analysis, particularly during the NBA season, and the station has become one of the primary homes for daily conversation surrounding the franchise.
The addition of WFAN also gives SiriusXM subscribers easier access to one of the country’s most influential sports stations, particularly for Knicks fans. The New York outlet has long been one of the nation’s flagship sports talk stations and frequently drives conversation around the NBA’s biggest market.
The partnership also creates an interesting full-circle moment involving Chris “Mad Dog” Russo. Russo famously left WFAN in 2008 to launch his SiriusXM career after his legendary run alongside Mike Francesa. Now, nearly two decades later, WFAN itself is joining the SiriusXM platform.
According to Marchand, the agreement gives Audacy broader national distribution for its local stations while helping SiriusXM bolster its lineup of local sports talk programming, an area where it has historically offered limited options outside of Mad Dog Sports Radio.
For listeners, it simply means more ways to tune in, whether that’s catching the morning commute in Cleveland, following the Knicks from across the country or listening to local sports talk while traveling.
