Warriors
The Warriors missed on LeBron James. Now comes the next phase of the offseason.
Golden State was never viewed as the favorite to land James before he ultimately signed with the 76ers, but that doesn’t make the outcome any less disappointing, according to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area.
As Poole noted, adding James would have represented the Warriors’ best opportunity to immediately regain contender status after a disappointing 37-win season. Instead, Golden State finds itself searching for another path.
The Warriors have swung for several marquee players in recent years with little to show for it, and league sources told NBC Sports Bay Area that trade talks remain very much in play this offseason.
In other words, expect Golden State to keep looking.
Wizards
The Wizards left Las Vegas encouraged by what they saw from several of their young wings.
According to Josh Robbins of The Athletic, first overall pick AJ Dybantsa, Will Riley and Tre Johnson all flashed their scoring ability during Summer League.
Washington assistant coach T.J. Sorrentine was especially impressed with Riley’s development on the defensive end.
“I was actually happy with how hard he competed defensively,” Sorrentine said. “He used his physicality, his new strength, had his hands on guys and took challenges on.”
Sorrentine added that Riley’s offensive instincts have never been in question, calling him “an offensive sponge” while praising the progress he’s made as a perimeter shooter.
For a rebuilding team, that’s exactly the type of growth the Wizards were hoping to see.
Jazz
The Jazz have added another young forward to their training camp roster.
Utah announced the signing of Harrison Ingram, who spent the past two seasons on two-way contracts with the Spurs.
The 23-year-old appeared in just 12 NBA games during his time in San Antonio but was productive in the G League, averaging 14.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists with Austin.
Contract details weren’t released, though the deal is widely expected to be an Exhibit 10 agreement that will give Ingram an opportunity to compete for a roster spot during training camp.
