Jaylen Brown ‘100% supportive’ of Sixers adding LeBron James

If there were any questions about how Jaylen Brown felt about the Sixers adding another superstar, Shams Charania says there shouldn’t be.

Brown was “100% supportive” of Philadelphia signing LeBron James, Charania said during an appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s podcast, via HoopsHype.

Interestingly, Brown and James apparently didn’t speak directly during the recruiting process. Brown instead communicated with James’ agent, Rich Paul, and made his position clear.

“Hey, I want LeBron here,” Brown told Paul, according to Charania. “This is someone I want to play with.”

James and Brown are expected to have their own conversations as they prepare for the season.

The larger question is how Philadelphia makes all of this work.

James joins Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe on perhaps the NBA’s most star-studded roster. Rival executives have already expressed skepticism about whether there will be enough touches and complementary players to make the pieces fit.

Charania said the word he keeps hearing around the Sixers is “sacrifice.”

Brown and Maxey could function as the top two scoring options on any given night, with Embiid obviously capable of leading the offense himself. Edgecombe will need opportunities after an impressive rookie season.

That leaves James in an interesting spot. Charania suggested the 41-year-old may increasingly become the player who organizes everything around those scorers.

“In a lot of ways,” Charania said, “he’s setting the table for everyone.”

For perhaps the first time in James’ career, that might be exactly what his team needs most from him.
