Bill Simmons blasts Yahoo Sports over LeBron James headline

Bill Simmons wasn’t happy with the way Yahoo Sports framed one of his recent comments about LeBron James and the 76ers.

Not even close.

After Yahoo promoted Simmons’ podcast with the headline, “Bill Simmons thinks there’s a chance that the 76ers could wind up like the 2012-13 Lakers,” Simmons fired back on X.

“This is bullshit,” Simmons wrote. “We went through all the scenarios for how the Philly signing could play out on Friday’s pod good and bad.”

Simmons took particular issue with the headline, arguing it stripped away the context of a much broader discussion.

“I thought Yahoo was trying to be a real place?” he wrote. “Don’t you guys pay respectable writers and podcasters to do content? But you also do fake clickbait crap?”

The original post referenced the infamous 2012-13 Lakers, a star-studded team featuring Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol that entered the season with championship expectations but never came close to meeting them.

Simmons’ point, however, was that Philadelphia’s new-look roster has a wide range of possible outcomes, not that the Sixers are destined to disappoint.

The exchange also serves as a reminder that in today’s media landscape, sometimes the headline becomes a bigger story than the opinion itself.
