Latest on Cavs’ pursuits of Jonathan Kuminga, DeMar DeRozan

One rumor involving the Cavaliers isn’t going away. Neither is the other.

Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of ScoopB.com reported Cleveland continues to weigh both DeMar DeRozan and Jonathan Kuminga as potential offseason additions, with league sources pointing to a few reasons why each could make sense.

One of the more intriguing connections involves DeRozan and Cavs guard James Harden.

According to Robinson, the two Southern California natives have shared a close friendship for years, with one source describing the relationship as one built on mutual respect dating back to their grassroots basketball days in Los Angeles.

From a basketball standpoint, another source told Robinson that DeRozan’s mid-post scoring could fill a need for a Cavs team looking to add another reliable half-court option alongside Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley.

Kuminga’s name also continues to surface.

Robinson reported Cavs president of basketball operations Koby Altman “remains intrigued” by the athletic forward, whose relationship with coach Kenny Atkinson dates back to their time together in Golden State.

Any move for Kuminga would almost certainly require a sign-and-trade, and Robinson noted multiple teams continue discussing potential frameworks.

One league source told ScoopB.com that Atlanta may ultimately view Cleveland as a more logical trade partner than the Lakers if serious negotiations were to develop.

Whether either scenario gains traction remains to be seen.

But as of now, Robinson’s reporting reinforces the idea that Cleveland continues exploring ways to upgrade its roster, with a proven veteran scorer in DeRozan and one of the league’s more intriguing young forwards in Kuminga still among the names worth watching.
