The Jonathan Kuminga sweepstakes may have another team involved.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Timberwolves have also expressed interest in the restricted free agent after missing out on LeBron James. Minnesota has an opening at power forward and could offer its $6.06 million taxpayer mid-level exception.

That still trails what the Lakers and Cavaliers could potentially put on the table financially.

Los Angeles is believed to have the strongest outright contract offer, while Cleveland continues exploring sign-and-trade possibilities with Atlanta. Even so, Minnesota has emerged as another team worth watching if Kuminga’s market continues to drag into late August.

Grizzlies

Memphis still has work to do before opening night.

Even after buying out Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the Grizzlies remain over the roster limit, and Scotto reported guards D’Angelo Russell and AJ Johnson are not expected to be with the team when the season begins.

Veteran forward Taj Gibson, whose contract is non-guaranteed, is another player to watch.

One player Memphis hopes to keep, however, is Olivier-Maxence Prosper after his encouraging finish to last season.

Hornets

Charlotte took a step toward solving its own roster crunch by officially waiving Mouhamadou Gueye, who is headed overseas.

That still leaves the Hornets with more guaranteed contracts than available roster spots, making veteran Pat Connaughton‘s non-guaranteed deal one to monitor as training camp draws closer.
