Kings considering Russell Westbrook reunion, Victor Oladipo signing

Russell Westbrook’s free-agent search could lead him right back to Sacramento.

The Kings are considering re-signing Westbrook or adding former All-Star guard Victor Oladipo, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Sacramento is looking for a veteran guard to help mentor No. 7 overall pick Darius Acuff Jr. Both candidates have plenty of experience, though they would arrive under considerably different circumstances.

Westbrook spent last season with the Kings, averaging 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 64 games. He declined his player option in hopes of exploring the market, but five weeks into free agency, the former MVP remains unsigned.

A return would give the Kings a known quantity and Acuff one of the most accomplished point guards in NBA history as a mentor.

It would also require clarity about Westbrook’s role. Sacramento is rebuilding around Acuff, and the goal would be helping the rookie develop, not blocking his path to significant minutes.

Oladipo would represent more of a comeback attempt.

The 34-year-old hasn’t appeared in an NBA game since the 2022-23 season with the Heat. Injuries derailed the career of a player who once ranked among the league’s best two-way guards, but Oladipo has continued working toward a return.

Neither move would alter the Kings’ long-term direction.

Both could give a young roster another experienced voice, and Westbrook already understands the organization.

He tested free agency looking for his next opportunity.

That opportunity may turn out to be the place he just left.
