Kyle Korver steps down as Hawks assistant GM

Kyle Korver is moving on from the Hawks.

Specifically, Korver has stepped down as Atlanta’s assistant general manager after four years in the organization, GM Onsi Saleh confirmed Monday.

Marc Stein of The Stein Line first reported that Korver and the Hawks were parting ways on “good terms,” adding that the former NBA sharpshooter is looking forward to his next post-playing chapter.

Lauren L. Williams of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Korver also intends to spend more time with his family.

“Kyle’s passion for the Hawks organization, culture building, and both people and player development have tremendously benefited our program and we are grateful,” Saleh said in a statement. “Kyle and his family will always be a part of the Hawks family.”

Korver, 45, joined Atlanta’s front office in 2022 as director of player affairs and development and was promoted to assistant GM in January 2023.

His departure is notable for another reason. Korver was reportedly among the candidates considered by the Bulls during their search for a new head of basketball operations earlier this offseason. Chicago ultimately hired Bryson Graham, who previously worked alongside Korver in Atlanta.

Korver spent 17 seasons in the NBA after being selected with the No. 51 overall pick in the 2003 draft. His lone All-Star appearance came with Atlanta in 2015.

Before joining the Hawks’ front office, Korver also spent the 2021-22 season as a player development assistant with the Nets.

As for what’s next, that remains unclear. But Korver would seemingly have plenty of options if and when he decides he wants another NBA job.
