Ready or not, here come Cavs new City Edition uniforms

Why the NBA needs city edition uniforms, we’ll never know. But they have them, and the Cavaliers are in the NBA. So, yes, a new set of city editions are on the way.

We know this because the Cavs revealed as much in an announcement-before-the-announcement announcement. In it, they revealed that their new city edition set will be released on Sept. 15.

Granted, I’m an old guy, so I’m not exactly in tune with the difference between the city editions, the throwbacks, the regular jerseys and whatever else might be implemented from time to time. I just know they exist. And that there’s probably too many of them.

When I was a kid, each NBA team had two sets of uniforms — home whites and dark roads. It was easier to keep track of. It also probably didn’t result in as much merchandise sales. The latter is part of the business of running an NBA team. You need to make money.

Given that I’m just the old man who yells at clouds, let’s turn to Zach Weiss of Across the Cavs and Cavs on SI for a few thoughts.

“There has been mixed reception to the new Cavs City Editions over the past few years,” Weiss wrote. “Ask this writer though, and they’ve all done well to be unique. These colors have not been what one may expect, but they have looked sensational with the matching courts. The orange in 2025-26 was especially neat because the team wore uniforms of that color from 1983-87.”

Sounds right to me. Now, drop what you’re doing and circle your calendar. Another way to spend money on the Cavs will be coming in less than a month. I, for one, am all for it.

Oh, and as an aside, I’ve been informed by another media member that this may be the release date for the Cavs’ NBA Cup uniforms, and not the city editions. In the event you needed more evidence I’m clueless about such things.
