Wizards’ Trae Young on AJ Dybantsa: ‘He’s cold, bro. He’s the real deal.’

Trae Young has played five games in a Wizards uniform. That’s it. But he already sounds like a guy who sees the next piece walking through the door.

Young went on Michael Porter Jr.’s podcast and did not hedge on No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa.

“He’s cold, bro. He’s the real deal,” Young said.

Then he explained why the lottery result actually landed the way he hoped.

“When I got traded, it was just like obviously I knew we weren’t going to be in a winning situation,” he said. “So when we ended up getting it, I was just like, man, if it’s AJ, I mean, I know we gonna get a real-deal player.”

Young has been around Dybantsa now. He’s been around the family. The first impression held.

“Everything that I thought about his game before I’ve seen him live and just been around him and being around his dad and his people, I mean, it’s all been positive,” he said 

That’s the new look in Washington in one clip. Young and Anthony Davis arrived by trade. Dybantsa arrived as the first name called. The Wizards have not won 20 games in any of the last three seasons. The floor is higher if the new pieces stay on the floor.

Young isn’t selling a finished product. He’s selling the kid next to him, and he’s not whispering about it.
