Kevin Durant: Not thinking about retirement or final NBA stop

Rockets star Kevin Durant isn’t ready to say Houston will be his final NBA stop. He also doesn’t sound like someone preparing to retire anytime soon.

Durant was asked during Houston’s media day whether he has considered finishing his career with the organization.

“I’m not thinking about anything like that,” Durant said. “I enjoy coming into work every day. It’s been fun going through the process with everybody. I’m taking it a day at a time.”

That isn’t a commitment to remain in Houston forever. It also isn’t a signal that the end is near.

At 37, Durant remains one of the NBA’s most productive scorers. He averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 78 games last season, earning second-team All-NBA honors.

He also finished fourth in the league in total points scored, as noted by Eric Jay Santos of Rockets On SI.

Durant holds a player option for the 2027-28 season, giving him the ability to enter unrestricted free agency next summer.

His decision could depend heavily on what happens this season. The Rockets won 52 games last year but lost in the first round with Durant sidelined for most of the series.

Houston still offers a compelling setup around younger stars Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson. Durant, though, isn’t making promises about what comes next.

“Who knows what will happen down the line or in the future?” he said. “Right now, I enjoy showing up for work.”
