Cavs giving Matthew Dellavedova a well-earned night of his own

Bobbleheads are fun. Foam fingers are fine. But the best part of the Cavaliers’ 2026-27 promotional schedule is Matthew Dellavedova getting a night of his own.

The Cavs will honor “Delly” on Dec. 12, when the Warriors visit Rocket Arena, as part of their season-long celebration of the 2016 NBA championship. It’s hard to imagine a more fitting opponent.

Dellavedova was never the Cavs’ biggest star, of course. That wasn’t the point. He defended everyone, chased every loose ball and generally played as if his NBA career depended on each possession. Sometimes it probably did.

He became a full-fledged Cleveland sports hero during the 2015 Finals against Golden State, when he pushed himself so hard that he required treatment for severe dehydration following Game 3.

A year later, Dellavedova helped the Cavs finish the job and deliver the city its first major professional sports championship in 52 years.

The promotional schedule, as detailed by Dan Kadar of the Akron Beacon Journal, also includes Sam Merrill and James Harden bobbleheads, a 2016 championship mini banner and a Donovan Mitchell “Spida” foam finger.

The championship anniversary will be celebrated at several games, beginning Nov. 7 against the Knicks. Those giveaways will come and go. Delly Night should feel a little different.

Dellavedova represented everything Cleveland tends to embrace in an athlete. He wasn’t flashy. He wasn’t graceful. He was tough, reliable and entirely uninterested in saving energy for later.

Ten years after the championship, the Cavs are making sure he receives his own ovation. He has earned every second of it.
