Sixers have four stars and one question: Who gives up what?

Jaylen Brown was asked Monday who the “alpha” will be on a 76ers team featuring LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

“Next question,” Brown replied.

Philadelphia’s new lineup will have plenty of time to answer that one on the court. At media day, the players were more interested in talking about what they’ll give up to make it work.

“If we say that we want to do something special, there will be a collective sacrificing in a good way,” James said, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “Sometimes in sports, people hear ‘sacrifice’ and automatically people start thinking negative about it. It’s not a negative thing.”

There’s a lot of scoring to share. Maxey averaged 28.3 points last season. Brown averaged 28.7 before the Sixers acquired him from the Celtics. James is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, and Embiid has won a scoring title.

Maxey sounds ready to adjust. He expects to continue handling the ball, but also sees opportunities to work off it.

“For me to be able to play off the ball, get some catch-and-shoots, come off some screens, come off some handoffs, get out in transition, I think it’ll be good for our team,” he said.

The four stars worked out together Monday, a day before camp opened. Embiid said they want as much time together as possible, on and off the floor, to build their relationships.

James knows the outside noise will be loud. He said it will be “doubled and tripled and quadrupled” now that he’s in Philadelphia. His answer was to keep the focus inside the building.

“I didn’t leave my family to lose in the second round,” James said. “I know that for sure. So work needs to be done, and I’m ready to put the work in.”

The Sixers have the talent. Now comes the part Brown couldn’t answer at a microphone.
