Anthony Davis isn’t promising the Wizards anything beyond this season. He’s also not worrying about it.
Davis said at Media Day that he intends to play out the year before deciding what comes next with Washington.
“When the season is over,” Davis said, via RealGM. “I’m going to go through the season, and kind of do what I do at a high level, and then, when it’s over, you know, sit down and have those key conversations again with the front office.”
Makes sense. Davis will make about $58.4 million this season and holds a player option worth roughly $62.8 million for 2027-28. He’s also eligible for an extension that could reach four years and $275 million.
So there will be plenty to talk about eventually. For now, Davis would probably settle for actually playing. The Wizards acquired him from the Mavericks in February, but a hand injury prevented him from appearing in a game for Washington last season.
Now he’s part of a dramatically different roster featuring Trae Young and No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa.
Maybe Davis loves it. Maybe Washington loves Davis. Maybe they eventually agree on another enormous contract. Or maybe something else happens first.
It’s the NBA. There’s plenty of season between now and that conversation.
