Warriors
The Warriors still don’t know when Kristaps Porzingis will be able to return.
Steve Kerr said Thursday that there is no timetable for Porzingis, who remains away from the team because of an unspecified health issue, according to Nick Friedell of The Athletic.
“He’s not here today,” Kerr said. “We’ve obviously been busy in Hawaii and Portland. So, I’ll reach out to KP today and check in with him, but nothing new to report.”
Porzingis has dealt with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS, over the past two seasons, though the Warriors have not said whether his current absence is related.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints also reported that Golden State is “bracing” for Porzingis to miss the beginning of the regular season.
Pacers
Jay Huff could give Tyrese Haliburton at least a little familiarity as Haliburton adjusts to life without Myles Turner.
Turner spent last season with the Bucks. Haliburton spent it on the sidelines. The year before that, they were playing in the Finals together.
Anyway, Maxwell Ogden of 8 Points, 9 Seconds points out that Huff brings some of the same basic traits Turner did, particularly shot-blocking, 3-point shooting and the ability to work as either a pick-and-pop or pick-and-roll big man.
Ivica Zubac is expected to start at center, but Huff could have a useful role behind him.
Huff averaged 1.9 blocks last season and has shown the ability to stretch the floor, giving Haliburton another big man who can operate away from the basket.
Suns
Ryan Dunn is getting the first opportunity in Phoenix’s early battle for wing minutes.
Through the Suns’ first two preseason games, Dunn has been the first wing off the bench ahead of Rasheer Fleming, as John Voita of Bright Side of the Sun noted.
Dunn’s defense remains his calling card, and Phoenix has paired him with other energetic defenders while surrounding him with more shooting.
The offensive part is still a work in progress. Dunn missed all three of his 3-point attempts through the first two preseason games.
Still, Phoenix appears willing to give the third-year forward the first shot at earning those rotation minutes. If he doesn’t, Fleming will be right behind him.
