NBA Notes: Warriors, Brandin Podziemski, Nets, Egor Demin, Cavs

Warriors

Brandin Podziemski has his extension. The Warriors guard agreed to a five-year, $110 million rookie-scale extension, according to Shams Charania.

The deal is fully guaranteed and includes a mutual option in the fifth season, along with a trade kicker.

Podziemski averaged 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists last season while appearing in all 82 games. He also led Golden State in minutes played.

The agreement removes any uncertainty before the Oct. 19 extension deadline and keeps Podziemski from entering restricted free agency next summer.

Nets

Egor Demin is trying to make versatility one of his calling cards. The Nets guard said he wants to help wherever he’s needed, whether that means handling the ball or playing off it.

“I’m a winner, so I want to win as much as I can,” Demin said, via Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “If that means for me to have 25 assists and five points, or whatever that means for me, I want to win first.”

Demin even pointed to LeBron James as an example of positional versatility.

“You look at LeBron, he can play from 1-through-5,” Demin said.

Nets coach Jordi Fernández has noticed the progress, too.

“You just can see how much he’s improved already from last year,” Fernández said. “His voice is growing, so it’s very important.”

Cavaliers

Peyton Watson gave the Cavaliers a glimpse of why they were so aggressive in acquiring him.

Watson finished with seven points, four rebounds, four assists and two blocks in 17 first-half minutes against Boston in Cleveland’s preseason opener.

Kenny Atkinson said the Cavs want Watson doing much more than standing on the perimeter.

“He’s a dynamic player,” Atkinson said. “I want to see him in the short roll. I want to see him not just floating on the perimeter.”

Atkinson also mentioned rebounding, pushing the ball, cutting and crashing the offensive glass.

“He’s an active offensive player,” Atkinson said. “He’s not just a spot-up guy.”

That versatility is a big part of why Watson has already made such a strong impression in Cleveland.
