Kings fear Maxime Raynaud could be out ‘for the foreseeable future’

The Kings may have suffered a significant blow Saturday night.

Center Maxime Raynaud injured his right knee during Sacramento’s preseason game against Golden State, and there is concern that he could be sidelined “for the foreseeable future,” according to Anthony Slater of ESPN.

Raynaud was setting a screen on Stephen Curry late in the second quarter when several players collided and he was struck on the outside of the knee.

He immediately went down in obvious pain. Trainers called for a wheelchair, and Raynaud underwent testing at halftime before being officially ruled out in the third quarter.

General manager Scott Perry and owner Vivek Ranadivé both checked on him near the visitors’ locker room. Raynaud later left the arena on crutches with ice and a large wrap around the knee.

The 7-footer is coming off an impressive rookie season in which he averaged 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in 74 games and earned second-team All-Rookie honors.

Raynaud had been expected to serve as Sacramento’s primary backup to Domantas Sabonis.

Now the Kings are waiting to learn just how serious the injury is.
