Karl-Anthony Towns didn’t exactly shrug off the Knicks’ decision to table extension talks.
“It was news to me,” Towns said Sunday, via James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. “Very disappointed, to say the least.”
New York announced Friday that it would pause negotiations with extension-eligible players until later in the season, a group that includes Towns, Josh Hart and Miles McBride.
Towns had already acknowledged earlier in the week that he was frustrated by the lack of progress in talks.
The Knicks have reportedly offered Towns something in the neighborhood of four years and $200 million. He is eligible for a projected four-year extension worth as much as $276 million and is said to be willing to take less than the maximum.
Still, the two sides haven’t gotten close enough to bridge the gap.
“Let’s state the obvious: It’s a business,” Towns said. “But there is business on the court for us to handle.”
That’s where Towns says his attention will stay, even if the contract situation is clearly bothering him.
Hart, meanwhile, said Saturday that he is “not really too stressed” about the Knicks pausing talks.
Towns? Different story.
