Pelicans re-sign Hunter Dickinson

Hunter Dickinson is back with the Pelicans, though his next stop could be another season in the G League.

New Orleans announced it has re-signed the 7-foot-1 center after waiving him from a two-way contract in August. The new agreement is a non-guaranteed camp deal, according to Paul Garcia of Spot Up Shot.

Dickinson, 25, made five NBA appearances last season, totaling 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 42 minutes.

His larger opportunity came with the Squadron, where he averaged 17.6 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 44 games. That’s a productive season, even if it didn’t translate into much time with the parent club.

The former Michigan and Kansas standout could now return to the Laketown Squadron, New Orleans’ relocated and rebranded affiliate.

The deal appears structured to provide an Exhibit 10 bonus if Dickinson is waived and then spends at least 60 days with the Squadron.

For Dickinson, the task is turning those G League numbers into another NBA opportunity. Returning to an organization familiar with his game gives him a place to continue that work.
