The Bucks will get an early start to their home schedule next Friday. Milwaukee has some baseball to watch that night.
The team moved its Oct. 23 home opener against the Bulls from 7 p.m. to 3 p.m. Central, giving fans time to turn their attention to the Brewers’ first World Series game in 44 years.
The Brewers completed a four-game sweep of the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series on Thursday. They’ll host Game 1 of the World Series that evening, though MLB hadn’t announced a starting time when the Bucks made the change.
“The Brewers’ return to the World Series for the first time in 44 years is a special moment for Milwaukee and sports fans across Wisconsin,” the Bucks said in a statement.
A Friday afternoon NBA game is unusual. A chance to accommodate the city’s first World Series appearance since 1982 seems like a good reason to have one.
The four-hour adjustment gives fans a chance to follow both openers without choosing between them. Depending on the baseball schedule, some could even make a day of it and attend both.
“The Bucks are proud to move our home opener to 3 p.m. in recognition of this historic occasion and thank the NBA for making this schedule change possible,” the team said.
Milwaukee’s basketball team won’t have much time to linger afterward. The Bucks visit the Sixers on Oct. 24, while the Brewers stay home for Game 2.
