Some stars have no desire to move on, regardless of their team’s situation, and it seems as if fans appreciate those stars more. Take Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, for example.
He’s a former back-to-back MVP in one of the NBA’s smaller markets, and despite lots of needling from the media, clearly has no desire to leave Milwaukee.
And now, it appears we can say the same about Mavericks star forward Luka Doncic. Dallas is bigger than Milwaukee, but it’s still not New York or LA. But from the sounds of things, Doncic is happy with where he is. In today’s NBA, that’s news.
Especially after he led the Mavericks to the Western Conference finals last season — becoming one of the youngest stars ever to do so.
“I don’t think they [should] worry about it,” Doncic said of the Mavs and their fans in an interview with WFAA’s Joe Trahan. “I have five years left here so I don’t think they should be worried about it.”
He added that winning a title in Dallas would be “everything.”
“I want to win the championship here,” he said. “It’s our goal. It’s the same every season. It’s a lot of work. There are so many great teams in the league. Anybody can beat you at this point. You have to be really ready.”
Doncic, 23, has been even more amazing this season than usual, averaging a career-high 34.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.1 assists through 16 games. As he stated, he still has five years remaining on his contract.
I’m going 1-on-1 with the great @luka7doncic tonight at 10pm on @wfaa.
